  • bachelor’s degree

·        The undergraduate degree in Spain has a minimum duration of 240 credits of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Getting these 240 credits and consequently finishing your undergraduate studies will take four academic years. As an international student seeking a bachelor’s degree in Spain, you will have many study options, such as hospitality, international relations, engineering, computer science, and art history, to mention a few. Besides the full-time study degrees, you can also find part-time and online studies.

  • Master´s degree

 A master’s degree is an academic qualification granted at the postgraduate level to individuals who have successfully undergone study demonstrating a high level of expertise in a specific field of study or area of professional practice.

  • Doctorate degree

In general, for entering an official doctoral programme the applicants must hold an official Spanish Undergraduate/bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, and an official Spanish Master’s degree. 

In Spain, full-time PhD studies last for a maximum of three years. It is possible to have enrolment on a doctoral programme extended for an additional two years, but this must be specially approved by your university’s Academic Commission. Part-time PhD programs last for five years extended for an additional two years.

  1. Sworn translation

A sworn translation is an official translation made on paper, with the signature, seal and certification of the sworn translator appointed by the MAEC (the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation). Such translation is legally valid for submission to any public or private body (ministry, court, consulate or notary public).

  1. Student health insurance

Health insurance for foreign students in Spain is mandatory if you come from a non-EU country. It is an essential requirement to apply for and obtain a visa to study in Spain.

  1. Student visa

If you are a non-EU citizen planning to stay in Spain for educational purposes and your study period exceeds three months, you are required to obtain a student visa. This type of visa is essential for your legal entry and stay in the country. Additionally, if your studies extend beyond six months, you must also apply for a residence permit once you arrive in Spain.

  1. Residence permit

Upon your arrival in Spain, you have a 30-day window to initiate the process of obtaining your residence permit. This procedure can be carried out at the local Immigration Office or Police Station within the province where your study authorization will be processed. The residence permit is crucial as it legalizes your prolonged stay in Spain, allowing you to live and study in accordance with local laws.

  1. Academic equivalency

Homologation is a process by which the Spanish Ministry of Education recognises that your secondary school studies give you access to a Spanish University, on the same terms as if you had studied in Spain. 

An essential step to be able to start the registration procedures for universities in Spain, and must be done by every student who studied outside the European Union. The procedures and required papers vary according to the required academic stage, but there are common matters that must always be taken into account:

1- All papers must be certified by the Ministry of Education, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the Spanish Embassy.

2- All papers must be translated by a certified sworn translator in Spain (or in your country, but you need to go through the certification procedures again)
